Clutch problem

I have a Ford 801 Power master thats worked fine for years . All of a sudden when I press in the clutch the engine wants to die . I can have it running with it in neutral and push in the clutch and it will do the same . If its not running at higher than an idle speed the engine will die . Any thoughts ???

Thats the crazy thing....it does not make a noise , all you can hear is the engine start to drag like its under a load when you press the clutch pedal . You have to rev it up pretty good to keep it from dying . Dont know the type of transmission it is . How could I tell ?

Tell us how many gears and the shift pattern. Another idea is that the wiring is being affected by the pedal or linkage causing a short or open in the ignition wiring. Just thinking out loud. Jim

5 speed trans. The shifter moves up and down, 3rd and reverse is up , 1st and 2nd is in the middle and 4th and 5th are down . I really dont think any wiring is being affected , there is none around the linkage. Thanks !
