Hi new to this website thanks for the information about the clutch, a friend of mine down the street wants one changed and I did not have a clue what to charge him. Around here for $500 is a life-changing chunk of money lol

Welcome to the Forums.

You will get better and more direct answers if you start a thread of your own about this. What the tractor is (make and model), does it have a loader and or backhoe on it, type of clutch, etc. all enter into this, for someone to try to answer you.

You should have an idea of how long it will take you and what you plan to charge per hour. Have you ever done one before? Do you have the tooling needed to split the tractor (assuming it will need a split to access the clutch? Is he buying all the parts? Does he have the service manaul for it which may have info needed for the initial clutch set up?

You state that you have known her and helped her out for close to 40 years. Around here in Illinois, independent repair shops charge 80 to 100 bucks/ hour. I would charge 40 to 50 bucks an hour plus parts. Last spring I converted and H Farmall to an alternator for a neighbor I've known all my life and gave him what I considered a reasonable priced bill for parts and labor. He told me I was too cheap and gave me an extra $300.

If your freind can’t work on his own tractor and a $500 bill is going to derail his finances it sounds to me like he really is in a position where he can’t afford a tractor.

Well you are right about one thing, this is the worst place to ask a question. Even though I was asking for a rough estimate. Hopefully from someone who had a recent experience having a clutch replaced. I guess I was brought up different. If I don't know an answer, I'm not going to make a smart aleck assumption, post it here, like running to the dealer with a computer in my hand.

Last double clutch I purchased was for a 3000 Ford from Ky Clutch, it was a complete kit with clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and alignment tool for $450
I’d figure $40-50 per hour labor and plan a full 8-10 day, may take longer, may not
If your wanting to give her a quote say $1000-1500 providing there’s no other issues once it’s split
Not familiar with Massey but when I split a Ford I usually replace the transmission input shaft seals, fairly simple job but extra parts

Better budget $2500, most of these compacts need the tin taken off along with the loader frame. Then you got to find somebody to do it and a place to buy parts. Ford, Massy, Deere and IH are easy compared to all the orphans and mavericks out there. Our local tractor repair shop is usually 6 months out.
