on my 52 8n when you first start it up for the day it is hard to get in gear because the clutch sticks. then when you are useing it sometimes it will work as soon as you press it other times it will travel up to ten feet before it stops. seems like when you idle it down it will work fine but when it is reved up i have the problem. it dont make sence to me. it also seems like it works better with the pto off.

The sticky clutch is an ongoing topic. You might try what others have done and block the clutch down when you are not using the tractor. --Couldn't hurt

Common problem and the archives are full of answer for that problem. Caused by oil getting on the clutch disk and making it sticky. First off make sure the little drain hole in the bell housing is open and free. It has that cotter pin in it to keep it open but sometimes it clogs up any how. #2 you can pull the starter off and use brake cleaner to spray the clutch area. Block the clutch down and spray it out and turn the engine over by hand so you get the whole clutch. That can help
