My clutch is stuck engaged. I press down on the clutch pedal and nothing happens. It worked fine 3 months ago before I went away for work. I got back this weekend. When I press down on the clutch pedal it drops to the floor and stays there. It has no resistance. Is there a way to simply adjust the clutch pedal or am I looking at a lot bigger repair

Thanks
BB

The clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel from rust. Next time you go away, block the clutch pedal in the full down position. Look in the archives stuck clutch. Nhere are numerous occurences of this problem and several difference solutions. Otherwise a split is in your future.

If it will start in neutral, your only chance without splitting is to put it on a hill where you can coast it to start in a higher gear,(3rd or 4th)after it starts hit the brakes and release while holding the clutch in this usually breaks it loose, you will be able to tell as soon as it breaks loose when it quits pulling,do it in a place where you have lots of room and be ready to turn off the switch if it doesn't work the first time,it has worked for me on cars trucks and tractors for many years.(I always start it in neutral to warm it up and make sure it starts when coasting.)

With no resistance (drops and stays there), I am inclined to say that something is broken (clutch forks??, or bolts that hold the forks on the shaft???).. seems to me that even if there were a stuck disk, the clutch plate springs would still provide resistance at the pedal.. you can see in there without splitting by removing the steering box, but splitting for a look is just about as easy and if you find something, you'll have to split anytway.

Try lifting the pedal, if it has slipped on the shaft you will be able to partly lift it and it will stay lifted slightly. If this happens, just slacken off the clamp bolt on the pedal slightly and turn the square shaft clockwise while lifting the pedal to the top and then tighten the clamp bolt a little. Now check how much free play there is in the pedal, there should be 3/8" between the pedal and the underside of the footrest, if it is less than this, just hit the pedal with a wrench (it wont harm it) and it will move slightly, now check adjustment again, once you have it set correctly, tighten the clamp bolt. If this doesn't work and the pedal is hard to lift, try slackening the pedal clamp and then try turning the square shaft clockwise, if it wont turn then the shaft is stuck in the bushes and the engine will need to come out to be able to free it off. If you need more information about this, email me and I will send it to [email protected]
