Co-Op E5 brakes

Good day all. I've been working on my Ferguson TEA-20: getting it ready for spring duties on my acerage. I'm finicky about the brakes. If I can't lock-up the wheels I'm not happy. What should I expect from the brakes on my Co-Op E5 (Cockshutt 50) when I get it up and running?

If they are like the two disc brakes on the 570 I had years ago, those were lousy. I reworked them to a three disc/spacer plate design and THEN it had decent brakes.

Dieseltech Thanks. That sounds both bad and good! According to the parts book there are two brake discs per side so it's probably similar to the 570.

The CO-OP E5 and early COCKSHUTT 50 brakes are similar to the 570 brakes............except the brake disc center hole is 2.5 inches dia. and 29 splines. The disc dia. is 7 inches on BOTH MODELS

The closed brakes on the E5/50 tractors were a vast improvement compared to the duo-grip open brakes that were the standard brakes on the E4/40 tractors year 1950 to 1054. The brakes that you have were optional on the E4/40 tractors 1952 to 1955.

The Size of the brake pinion shaft and the spline count is different. The brake system is the same on all the closed brakes on E4/40, E5/50, 560-570 & 570Super.

The 50 went to the 2 inch hole in the brake disc X 23 splines at tractor serial number 50 15001, during the 1955 production year...........your E5 should have 2.5 center hole X 29 splines X 7 inch dia. discs............
