Cockshutt 40 adding power for pulling

I have a Cockshutt 40 with a good engine, tires, etc. that was used for pulling, and I'm thinking about doing some local pulls next year. What simple changes can I do to add some power, such as electronics (coil, points, plugs) or carburetor (re-jetting)? All suggestions are appreciated.

Well, I did a little more to mine. It has a 3400 Hercules, which now has 401 cu. in. It will pull 5th gear through the 6000# class and on some tracks through the 7000#. Not very hard to put in.

The rules you pull under are everything in tractor pulling. If you have a good stout 40 you may not need any more power, you may just need to get it to the ground. Our club has a tire size rule, NO hang on weights and a 3.5 MPH rule , some of the clubs only allow you to use 1st and 2nd gear, so big horsepower just don't do you much good.

Could you guys give me some input on putting the 3400 hercules in and what they came in? Also info on the buda allis 262 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Blake
