Coil hookup, Ford Jubilee

On the plus and minus side of the coil, which side hooks up to the distributor?

One wire goes to the ingintion switch and one to the distributor, right!

Would I do any damage using an 8 volt battery on a 6 volt system?

AAha! You didn't pay attention to my diagram did you!? :wink:
It is marked "Battery" or "-" to cover both coil markings that have been used over the years. So, that would mean "-" coming from ign sw , thus leaving "+" from distributor.

The problem with 8v battery is that since the voltage regulator is a 6v regulator, it will not raise the 8v battery to full charge. It will work, sort of & not damage your tractor.
 
I'll pass on the 8V question. I wouldn't do it,
but that's because electrical issues confuse me
generally. I prefer to keep things as they were
intended. It gets me in less trouble.

As for the coil, on a 6V positive ground system,
the + side of the coil goes to the distributor.
The other side goes to the terminal block on the
back of the dash.

I agree about the 6 Volt battery and that's what I'll get.
I see in the diagram there is a terminal block separate from the voltage regulator. I don't have a terminal block, everything is jumped from the screws on the voltage regulator. Plus in the new wiring harness I bought, I have one red wire within the harness that I don't know where it goes.

Reckon I'll get the terminal block and try to match the wiring as per the diagram. I thought the left over red wire was a hot wire for the lights, not sure.
