coil spring

if you havent done this before dont do it ,coil springs are under a huge amount of tension , if its done wrong and it pops out your dead, right there, usually American made 2wd pickups can be changed out by setting the truck up on tall jack stands under the trucks frame, pulling the wheels, rotors, brake calipers ect then putting a floor jack [ a big 5 or 6 foot long 400lb one, not one of those little box store specials] then taking the lower ball joint loose which requires another special tool, and lowering the lower control arm out of the way but as i said, you must have the right tools and equipment,or this job will kill you before you can even think about it

As eric said, changing a coil spring can be dangerous. Use the right tools and avoid using cheap spring compressors or cheap jacks. If possible, I always chain the coil springs in place in addition to all other precautions. If you've never done this, have somebody show you how it's done before attempting to go solo.

use a really good floor jack under lower A arm, that`s all I`ve ever used even with the 5500lb motor home coil. You only need to disconnect the upper ball joint and tie the caliper up out of the way.
