Coils, 1947 2N

My Brother-in-law has a 47 2N front mount, 12 volt with a electronic ignition.

He seems to be going through a new coil every 5 to 6 months. what could be causing this?

have him check with the maker of his EI to see what coil / resistor combo it reccomends... if there is too much primary current damaging the coils.. then the EI probably doesn't like it either.

In some cases the ei kits can even use a coil adapter plate to use a common round can coil..

find the info and then post back.

Check Hobo's site for a method of gutting an old square can coil so you can use a real 12 volt coil that don't need a resister. If not you will need to measure the resistance of you coil and add a resister to so you keep the current down to less then 4 amps.

Thanks. My Brother-in-Law will be at his Dads tonight in NH for dinner, he is the one who had the E/I put on years ago and will ask him.

Thanks
