Dang Tom I am 50 miles north of you in Tennessee 2 degrees here power on and 72 in the house. Sun is out also so it feels warmer. Stay safe

-12 here in Southern Minnesota. Strong Northwest winds close to 30mph and getting stronger as the day goes on. Cant see across the field from here. Kow Farmer

As a general rule we don't get a lot of lake effect. US 131 is about the line for it. We're about 25 miles east of there. When it's real windy it'll get this far. I hauled milk back in the early 70s and hauled over west in the lake effect area. I couldn't believe the difference some days.

There's a blizzard warning the next county west of us, but we didn't get a whole lot. We're only under a winter storm warning and it's mostly for the cold wind. There's some bare ground yet where the wind has blown it clean.

Same here in the tropical part of MN... winds rising to full effect this afternoon. Already significantly reduced visibility though.

Shiawassee county MI 8-10 with wind and about 4-5 inches of snow overnight. Plenty of good wood for the furnace. Now just have to go fill it.

Dang I'm 235 miles north of you and -8.
Very toasty in my recliner.
I have a special heating pad for my neck and shoulder, arthritis. Almost too warm, but it feels good.
No plans to go outside unless I have to.

''Now just have to go fill it.''

Here I go again laughing about something that that reminded me of. LOL Two of my nephews lived together for a while and one would complain that the other one wouldn't get up and load the stove. He said he'd just grab another blanket and stay right there on the couch.

It won't kill you. I didn't think it was bad out there this morning until I got out away from the buildings. When I was going down across the field to take a bale to the cows across the road, it was down right painful until the left side of my face went numb. Of course then the whole process started over coming back until the right side went numb.

85 for a high and 73 for a low today in Montego Bay Jamaica. LOL. I wish I was there on vacation. It's actually -7 where I am at.

They closed the roads all around here last evening, wasnt that bad in my neighborhood but the wind chills were/ are dangerously terrible. Today I cant see the neighbors, wind is up another 5mph at about 30 and gusts higher. Roads still mostly all closed lot of fresh snow to blow around. Hasnt been above zero in a day or so.

Pretty big and deep cold wave I saw the minor bowl game held in Texas last night they were at 10 degrees or so, thats cold for a party type bowl game event!

Affects a lot of us.

Feel bad for the brick and mortar stores, last week and now this week have been tough weather here, not much shopping going on. Christmas rush is going to be a Christmas fizzle for them.

-28C which converts to about -18 below zero F in NE Alberta. Had this for about a week.

Kow, Im sorry.... if you still want some corn when this clears out just have some, no cost. I had some issues and went anti- social there for a couple weeks......

rrlund,

I know, I'm a sissy when it comes to cold. I live in Tennessee so I shouldn't need it but, my face really gets cold, so a few years ago I bought a good ski mask. When I took it to the cashier to pay for it, I mentioned to the young man operating the cash register that I needed the mask because I planned to rob a bank that afternoon. The young guy played right along with my joke and asked if he could join me if he bought his own ski mask.

I don't use the mask often, but when I need it, I have it.

Hoping everyone affected by this cold snap stays safe. We should definitely be colder than this for the time of year. But we arent, 30* looking at 41*. Snow on the ground, sun shining and no wind.

Humidity expressed in percentage is percentage of saturation at whatever temperature the air is. Cold air doesn't carry nearly as much moisture as warm air, true. But the 83% humidity reading means that the air was carrying 83% of the carrying capacity of -9 degree air.

I've tried those, but they keep moving so I can't see and are more trouble than they're worth. I remember when we were teenagers and had a bad cold snap and a lot of snow, a neighbor kid plowed snow with his snowmobile helmet and face shield on. He looked kind of odd, but his face was warm.

Bill, I assume from your handle that you are from south Texas. This is why my dad wintered in south Texas after he retired. After my wife retires next year, we may start doing the same.

Here in eastern Nebraska at 10:20am.

High yesterday was -6. We have about an inch of snow on the ground. It's supposed to be in the upper 40's late next week.

I turned the thermostat back to 66 had set for 70 furnace has running non stop since 6 am.
My thinking is will be good to have furnace stop for a while.
I learned last night windows in living room don't fit well.
Tall Kid asked if I would like to Bears football game tickets are 5 dollars I asked him if is kidding me.

1:00 PM here in SE IN 0 F showing on outdoor thermometer. See clouds of wind-driven snow blowing from fields behind the barns up to the hillside pastures. At age 87 I have to stay inside!

Weather says -10 this morning, but my thermometer said -14. Wind is blowing a bit. Had to blow snow so had to start the 400. Was plugged in all night so it started pretty good. Did have a power steering leak until it warmed up some.

I have vinyl frame windows and in the winter they don't seal well. Years ago I learned that the plastic film from Duck is the best. It dropped my heating bills by 20% So every year I put it up when it starts to blow. By the way it was -5 here in KY and my house is 70* with a 18,000 btu propane heater

North East Missouri -6 here this morning,-10 by the time I got to work. 1 above at noon with the wind chill at -22.

I often wonder how frustrating it must be to work in those environments. I almost took a job with the oil industry when Purdhoe Bay, Alaska opened. Wifie said you will go alone...........she got thanked many times as after reconsidering that money wasn't everything, getting reports of those that made the treck, made the big salary not enough enticement.........and I wasn't the least bit interested in loosing my wife in the deal.

I frequent Weather Underground on the internet and their 10 day forecast spreadsheet lists every aspect of the weather out to 10 days. Usually they are right on with temperatures rainfall rates, and seemingly wind conditions. So every time we have a HIgh Pressue Dome come and sit on top of us, when a cold front comes through humidity is very high and uncomfortable temperature till the front hits then it gets cold and dry........after the front passes.
