I got this with a bunch of stuff from the older man who sole me his Cub. It is a #40 best I can tell. Found some info that said they came with four sprockets and six plates. I've got all the sprockets and ten plates, but a couple look like duplicates. Wording is worn off most of them, but based on holes it looks like one cotton, one four hole pea plate, sorghum and the rest are corn variations.
Inside is in good shape. For anyone using anything similar this old, is there any maintenance tricks other than pulling out the axle and greasing all moving parts after use?
I've got a front bracket he used to mount it and goes on easy with four bolts. The rear bracket is already installed to the lift bar. I've got a furrower he used that is mounted on a tool bar. I will probably use the tiller or at a minimum disk well before using it. Is there an advantage to using the furrower on smooth dirt? The only reason I could thing of is if it clears any plowed under debris that might accumulate on the planter's opener.
I'll probably only use it for corn and peas, but was hoping it had a bean plate for something small like Henderson's. All my stuff is already planted for this spring, but I will play with it and put some purple hulls where my potatoes are when it is time to dig them. At least that will give me an excuse to hook it up and lift it and see if small beans will feed with the pea plate. If not, I'll use the Hoss push seeder and follow the planter's wheel track to get my rows right to be able to cultivate with the tractor.
