Coleman Machine

in Clairsville, Ohio. Anyone know if this is a honest place to buy a tractor? One guy said it is just a salvage yard but that does not necessarily mean it couldn't have
a decent machine. I have bought several automotive items at a salvage yard and have had good luck. They have a tractor that looks good in the photos I have looked at
and it doesn't look like it has been repainted to hide a lot of problems but there naturally could be some major problem too.

Near St. Clairsville, OH for the record. No, not a salvage yard. They carry lots of used inventory. I am not aware that they do 'spray can overhauls and such. I think they just acquire older used equipment and resell it at their yard. Let the buyer beware and go from there.

It is the Allis 8070. I know this may not be the ideal place to ask since I am looking at an AC but I also put this on the AC and IH boards hoping more people would see it. I think it looks pretty good myself. He claims it is good. I am over 900 miles away so I can't look at it either. It is cheap enough and looks good enough I want to find out more about it and Coleman Machine.

I can't believe how much used tractors have gone up and also how scarce they are. I missed out on the buy of a lifetime thanks to a lazy dealer. I would definitely have taken the tractor but it was private party he was selling. I wanted to look at it (still at the owner's property) but he procrastinated for a week and the widow lady that had it sold it--for less money than I would have given.

The 426 engine in that tractor was over matched for the power that was being squeezed out of it. If for regular work such as tillage I would steer clear.

I agree the engine is the least desirable item but in the 8070 I think they were OK, with the condition you didn't turn them up. The 7080 was where they ran into a lot of trouble. They turned them too fast and it might be they would have lasted better at lower RPM as some have said but the 426 is definitely at its upper limit at 170 HP. I won't use it hard if I get it and could get by with a smaller tractor but the cab and controls are probably better than anything else in that time period. It is really a shame the Germans killed AC and brought in those horrible Deutz tractors that were 20 years behind anyone else. Put a B and C series Cummins in the 8000 series and they would have been great.

I have never seen anything good come from there...They are 50 miles east of me,, I visited it once,,a Major unkempt place..I will never go back..

Be careful spending your money on something like this so far away. Check with your local banks and Agri banks first. Could be a money pit your falling into
