collaspable water hoses

They are advertised on TV. Are there any down side to them? For example: when you turn on the water do they take off and jump around as they inflate? Farm and Fleet have some 100 ft models and I guess I would be able to wash my car on either side on the house or garage if I had one them. Any of you have any of these?

The ones I have had experience with did not jump and thrash around when they expanded.

Biggest problem I saw with them is they all leaked out of the package or begin leaking after a few uses. Cant say but they may have improved on quality since then..

Had a couple as gifts, and they didn't last, even under very moderate use--much as Mule Meat's experience, they started leaking quickly and became essentially useless, as once they leak they won't inflate and all you have is a few feet of leaky hose. These were cheapies, and it's possible a better one would hold up better, but these certainly weren't worth much.

What I didn't like about the one I used is if you need a little trickle of water it won't do it. The pressure has to be pretty high before it lets the water out.

It depends on how go of one you buy. Cheap ones don't hold up.I have had one for 3 years and it is still good.

I have a friend in the hardware/lumber business that
told me everyone of those hoses that he sold were
returned as defective.

My wife had one, but the cats would attack it when she turned the water on or shut it off. They would bite holes in it. Did not last long. My wife was upset, she really like the fact she did not have to roll up a bunch of hose. gobble

sde,

I have a 50-footer... and like it because it's so light weight. Waayyyy, nicer to drag around and/or loop it around the hose-hanger when I'm done using it due to its light weight.

No, they don't "fly off the handle" when you turn on the water.

They just slowly shrink when you turn off the water.

The only thing I don't like about it, is that the cloth covering will snag on rough spots around my old rusty garden wagon/garden manure spreader box... so don't know how long it will hold up for the long term (just bought it last summer).

But that said, I'm going to buy another one this spring... so I'll have 100 feet total - so I can reach my bathtub garden planter.

I use one in the greenhouse and it's perfect for there (I also put it in a cabinet after use so the sun doesn't beat on it). I'd never use one a a replacement for an outdoor hose. The ones where they've gone to the expense of using brass fittings are likely to last a lot longer than the ones with plastic fittings (which come apart at the fittings or turn into soaker hoses in about 6 months of use).

I have one I use when washing vehicles or equipment. I like it really well the first one I had the end blew off after a couple uses but I?m pretty sure because I jerked it under a tire and pulled on it. Really like having a little ball valve on the end. I just use a mini fire hose end. Turn it to the spray I want and leave it and can shut it off with the valve. When I?m done throw it in my wash bucket and put it in the building. This will be my third summer with this hose and at only around $10 a hose who cares if it fail after a while.

I wouldn?t call them heavy duty but they have their place. I have one in the RV and ??tis really handy. Don?t need to roll it up, just disconnect let it drain and shrink then toss it in the RV.

They are neat, but mine leaked at the connections. I see they have improved ones.. might buy one of those and see how it holds up. Currently have 2 100' heavy duty hoses connected together, and it's a PAIN to pull out androll up after use.

I have had several. All the way from the 'cheap' hoses to ones with brass fittings.

Excellent idea, but the longer the hose is the better chance it will leak. Have had 50, 75, and 100 feet hoses. Also have one 25 foot hose.

The 25 foot is the only one that doesn't leak because it is plain and simply too short.

Does anyone know how to repair one? DOUG
