Combine bin cover

I am looking at making a bin cover for my new holland tr86 combine for the winter any suggestions on what I should use or do. I was think about making like a thing out of wood that would sit on top of it would that work or be to much weight on the bin with snow.

They use plywood on fertilizer spreaders. I don't know why it wouldn't work on a combine. Wrestling it up there might be the only issue. You could stand a 2x4 under the center of it to keep it from sagging I'd think.

That's what I was figuring on doing

I like Flyings bows and tarp, something you could use in season over night easily.

Nothing wrong with your wood, plywood, or sheet metal roofing idea either, might be a bit more to wrestle with to take on and off. Maybe 2 sloped sides that pin together, so you can take up in 2 pieces?

Combines sold in SA have a tarp grain bin cover, because harvest is done during short storms, and it is common there to harvest the end of one field, while rain is pouring on the other side.

Here in Europe, Massey 700 series had tarp covers with a steel structure. 800 series had a steel cover. 8820s had a fiberglass cover. If you use a tarp, it will have to be stretched over a bow structure, like the brazilian Massey, otherwise, you may have water pockets, thus generating very high loads.

On the long run, it might be cheaper to buy/make a barn to park the combine under it. The maintenance cost will be less. Depends of where you live of course, in Montana or Canada, a cover does not matter much, except to avoid the moonlight or the sunlight destroying the paint.
