Combine Fuel Consumption

What do you average for fuel consumption 'gallons per acre' for your combine in different crops. Just curious what different brands, new/old, head combinations ect. average. Was running some numbers today and my new to me 6620T2 took 2.1 gallons per acre in the ugly wet, hard to shell corn I had this fall with a four row head. About a half gallon more than the 4435 hydro I had before. Yield was decent but test weight was low and also had lots of trash going thru the machine so that kept field speeds slow. Beans went thru easy tho and averaged 1.3 gallons per acre with a 15 ft. head.

We run an old MF 550. 4 38" rows in corn and 15' head in beans.

We have never measured it too closely but always figured a little less than 1.5 gpa in beans and a little more than 1.5 gpa in corn. In poor conditions more, of course.

Oh boy. This has been something I watch fairly close. Not like I can do much about it, I just really like numbers and figuring fill ups etc. Going back in the day when Dad still ran the combine.

Deere 55 roundback - Before my time but it seemed we were hauling fuel to that constantly.

Deere 4400 Gas/straight gear - Doing beans 16ft 2.6 gpa, doing corn 3.1gpa. That was with dad running it and he was slow.

New Holland TR70 4wd 3208Cat - 16ft beans/wheat or 6row corn about the same 2.4gpa. Ran full out in 2nd gear for all crops, about 3.8mph

Deere 7720 4wd - Beans/wheat 18ft about 1.8 gpa. 6 row Corn anywhere from 1.6 to 2.1 gpa. (Never been consistant)

Neighbors Case 1660 2wd - 20ft beans/wheat 1.6gpa , 6 row corn 1.7gpa.

My Brothers FIL's Case 1666 - 6 row corn only 1.3 gpa. He pours the material right to that poor thing, almost 6mph usually. But seems to work for him.

My Gleaner F gas was about 2 gal per acre.

My gleaner F2 diesel 6 was right at 1.1/1.2 gallon per acre.

The F3 with turbo 4 seems right around there, last year the beans were so tough I plugged the header throat and drove so slow it was much more; this year I waited until November for beans and breezed right through, did 80 acres on 2 tanks of fuel with some left over. Corn is about the same, wish they had a bigger grain tank, if I didn't have to unload on each end it would be much better time & lower fuel consumption.

Never figured it on my previous machines (Gleaner E, Oliver 525, Ford 620, New Holland 985), but my NH 1400 (380 Ford diesel, hydro) is very consistant at 1.2-1.3 gallons per acre in oats or barley,(13' cut) unless it's real poor going. Never figured it with my 4-38's, as I only do a few acres per year for a neighbor. With the 6-30's, I think it's around 1.3-1.5 gallons per acre, but I'm not sure on that. Plan on checking that again IF I can ever get going on the corn...

Nobody's gonna believe this, but it's true, nevertheless. We had a 95 Diesel with an 18-foot head and floating cutterbar (flex heads hadn't been invented yet) and in 40 bushel beans, more than once cut 80 acres on something less than 40 gallons of diesel fuel. When we changed to a 6-row row-crop head, fuel consumption went up some, but never more than about ,75 gal per acre. Most economical combine we ever had. Our 105 diesels burnt more, but we filled the 60-gallon tank at noon, and didn't refuel until noon the next day, don't have any gallons per acre figures but they were very economical and would do more than any 6600 Deere ever built.

, Best one for Me is the 4cyl. PERKINS in My 300 MASSEY ,I bet It takes less then a gallon per acre in wheat, I recall burning 80 gallons thru my 300 gasser to thresh 55 acre wheat, Boy Everything Was in fine form that week, got about 2500 bu.......... This year diesel Gleaner F came here asking for action, Uses more fuel Then the Massey Diesel, But Can do a lot More TOO .. Like Everyone Else , Never Checked it REAL CLOSE and often wondered about fuel use ...All my stuff is Paid for , and I can fix or find Someone to help me fix them ..I Do Believe That I use More Fuel per Acre with My SMALLER OLD Machines then the 8 and 12 row guys do,, And i bet alot of you will agree , I can probably Sleerp better than Them Also ...

I can agree with you. I ran 18 acres of beans thru my 95 gasser last sat. on 22 gallons with a 15' head with love bar. Not sure why they get such a bad rap for fuel usage.

Put a 4 row 38" corn head on one. Then you'll know why they got that reputation. I ran 15 acres thru mine this year, filled the tank when I started, and had to fill it again when done so I could drive it home... figures better than 2.5 gal per acre. Not at all complaining, it was a lot of fun. Corn was over 200 bpa.

I have a JD 95 with the gas 217 it took about 1 gal per a.
Guy 1/2 mile away had a 95 with a 303 motor & he said it took close to 1 1/2 gal per a.
I still have my 95 but havent dint used it this year, Had all beans. Now I have a JD 8820 with a 25' bean head much better than the 95.
The other guy put his 95 in to a combine durby & I got it when it was done for the work I put in to get it readey, There was Lots of good parts left on it.
