compression release for 60 JD

Have a power block that needed bored... so did that. Putting some pistons in with 10-1 compression. was wondering if i even needed some release valves. then i thought maybe putting them out the side instead of on the bottom, because of the frame. would be easier to reach on the sides anyway. and if i had pipe extensions on the bottom it would probably lead to detonation and blow my valves out. Any info and knowledge would be greatly appreciated

Depends on the cam what the compression pressure is.
A group 31 battery with 2/00 - and + cables direct to the starter may crank it over.
Cranking with the throttle completely closed will roll her over easier.
What kind of gasoline are you planning on using?

i'll be running jet blue, or something like it.
might need one stronger battery, than the two 6 volts? I've heard different opinons on running the 1 strong battery vs. the two 6's.
thanks buickanddeere.

Jet Blue will have more than enough octane. problem is the flame speed is formulated for 9000rpm small block Chevs.
100LL from the airport will have enough octane and has a slower flame speed for low speed, long stroke, large bore engines.

if i were to put some kind of relief valve on my block, is it possible to put them on the sides of the block? instead of on the bottom?

Any place you can drill through without hitting water. If mounted underneath and using real JD petcocks. Most people would think she's still stock.

If you dont want to put them behind the bottom headstuds, you can put them behind the next headstud above each sparkplug.

Like B+D says though, if they are on the bottom, they are a lot less obvious to the casual observer.

Thanks so much for info. i"ve had stock 60 blocks with the holes drilled for the petcocks in the bottom, but have never seen any JD petcocks, are they with some kind of valve?
