Compressor lube?

Would linseed oil work ok in my upright Coleman air compressor ? I nee a thinner oil..

I wouldn't use it . Why not just go with a lighter motor oil. My compressor called for straight 30 weight but I use a 5w30 and have no problems in winter. What does the manufacture say to use in it? They usually give you several choices of oil depending on the conditions your useing it in.

It is not a lubricant and is also a product that dries.It is closer to paint and is an ingrediant in paint.

THANK YOU for the replies. I did find out that 'linseed oil' is NOT oil !! 5w30 is good, but I did not have that or anything, here.. But my farmer neighbor did, about 1/2 qt was plenty.
When I removed the drain plug, the oil came out like cold STP !! I put a heat lamp on it and an hour later put in 5w30. Works fine now.

good idea, I will get some next time I get to town. today, I needed air for a very low tire, before I could go anywhere.

I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30 or 5W-20 motor oil in my shop compressors 30 years ago. Had trouble blowing fuses on a -30 ND winter day. Since using the multi weight synthetic, no more starting problems. I change it once a year, every 2 years since I retired from farming.

I've used Craftsman and C-H compressor oil in the past. I recently switched to Amsoil. The compressor runs slightly but noticeably cooler (using the calibrated hand test), but it's not a big difference. I've still not decided if it was worth the extra expense.
