Compressor value

I had an old Rochester Brake Shoe company 60 gallon
compressor that had a bad tank. I saved the pressure switch,
electric motor and the actual compressor. Tank went for scrap.
I found a nearly new 2 stage Campbell Hausfeld compressor
for less money than I could buy a tank. So I still have all the
old compressor parts. The compressor is a Kellog American
321TV. I’ve been trying to clean up and get rid of things I
know I may never use. Does this compressor have any value
? It worked fine when the tank started leaking. Just
wondering. Thanks.

I believe you're right, that it is usually more cost effective to buy a new compressor rather than a replacement tank.

I sometimes need a larger compressor than where one might readily go, so I've set up an older compressor for mobile use. When I need it, it runs constantly via a small engine. There is a pressure relief right out of the compressor and another near the working end of the hose that is set slightly higher. It's used for tasks where moist air isn't an issue.

Otherwise, you could keep an eye open for used compressor where the actual compressor has failed. Just make sure that ANY new/replacement tank is rated for the pressure of your compressor.

See that’s the thing. I bought a replacement over a year ago.
I really don’t need the Kellog and don’t have room for another
complete compressor. Just trying to figure out what to do with
the parts I have.

300jk, to answer your question, I would say yes, that pump has value. A quick search found a replacement for that pump at nearly $800.
A month ago, I spotted an ad that had "a bunch of things for sale." In a couple of the pictures, in the background, I saw a "bigger" air compressor. 80 gallon tank with just the pump. Now, after finding a 7.5hp motor + misc parts, I have about $350 into it. The same compressor still sells for around $1800 new.
If you don't want to bother finding a tank, put the parts on CL or FB marketplace. Someone will buy them.
Best of luck.

I already have another compressor and really don’t need another ! We have an old Quincy 60 at the farm, hooked to another 60 gallon tank for back up. I just can’t see using this in a long time !

If it was mine I would find a 100 pound propane tank, they are rated for over 200 psi, that's about what the relief is set at. I would set a new relief valve at about 125. Only for personal use, you shouldn't sell a complete homemade compressor for liability reasons.

I hope you copied your reply, jk, because it seems few people have responded to your actual question.

I agree that there is some value to your motor and compressor. If not Craig'sList, everyone is telling me that FaceBook Marketplace is the new spot to sell stuff. Just have a grandkid list it for you, offer them $20 to sell it all. (I'm assuming multiple things here, of course).

I have a bowling-alley-big-top no-name special 60gal with pie-in-the-sky 5hp motor in the shop that has been pretty good for 20+years, and just today, made a deal on a 1960's era horizontal tank unit!
