computer question

My computer has recently decided not to send e-mails, I can receive e-mails. Also not to respond to comments I make in you tube videos. In you tube it says "comment failed to post. I have talked to Spectrum to no avail. If you have an idea let me know. Thanks, Ellis
Have you tried shutting it down and turning it back on (cold reboot)? This often cures many things.
Try it and report back.

I can't think of anything that would prevent you from posting to YouTube and still allow you to post to the forums here on YT.

As for your email issue, you'll need to provide a few more details. What sort of email service are you using? Is it web-based, like gmail or hotmail, or do you use a POP/IMAP/SMTP service? What is your email client, if you're not using a webmail service?

If you receive your emails over POP or IMAP, then you're sending via SMTP, which is a totally different protocol. So it's possible you can't send via SMTP but POP and IMAP are OK.

I don't understand all the initials you posted. I am using TWC.

Those are just common client-server email protocols that you would be using if you're NOT using webmail.

TWC = Time Warner Cable, now Spectrum. It sound like you're using a webmail interface. If that's the case, the problem is entirely on your ISP (Spectrum).

Is this where you go for your email?
Spectrum webmail

A few things to try.
- Update your browser to the latest version. Mail email services try to stay up-to-date to only allow trusted secure browsers to do all the functions.
- Adware blockers and such can prevent things from working too. So, when you are at the email service, tell your adware blocker the site is to be trusted.
- The computer stored cookies, beacons, and analytics could be blocking full access. Using Ccleaner 'free for home use' can fix and clean this problem out.
- If all of this still isn't enough, try a different browser.
- and reboot. ha ha ha

THANK YOU! Well I shut the computer off and went to church. (I'm sure that helped) Came home and turned it back on and ate lunch. I now have e-mails and you tube posts again. I am sure glad I asked questions. As you have probably figured out I am not really computer savvy. Ellis

I am so glad it worked for you. But, I thought everyone in the world knew the oldest fix in the world. Just shut down and reboot. I shut down my computer every night. I just don't see any reason to have it running all night.

Agreed.

I have 3 computers.

One in my little cubby hole computer room/office in the house, another in the living room that is connected to the TV for streaming movies, sports, etc. The third one is in my shop.

They all get shut down when I'm done with them for the day.

You probably have a GMAIL account, which is also required for posting on YouTube. There was probably a glitch in your saved password or ??? The advice on shutting down and restart works wonders in so many cases.

We have Spectrum too. Both my wife and I had issues with sending and receiving emails about a month ago. Spoke to them and they were clueless.
They did have us remove an excess of old email. My wife had thousands. That did help somewhat. Check all your folders from trash to spam. You’d be surprised at how many old emails there are.
Finally after a few weeks the issues went away.
Bottom line is the old emails were maybe part of the problem but the rest was something in their system.

I delete emails from my system every day. Anything I want to keep is put into a separate folder. Thousands of old useless emails are never a good thing to keep.

I'm glad to hear you're back on line. Sounds like the cold boot fixed it. Or maybe your computer just needed a little down time.
