Computer restore

I cleared browsing data and cache and lost a folder in bookmarks tool bar along with other problems. I tried to do a system restore to put it back like before I did this. I can't find how to set system restore to a date earlier. IE I can't set a restore date. I have chrome browser and windows 10.

System Restore seems to be a lot harder to find in Windows 10 than in earlier version. A Google search for system restore windows 10 will find some help.

Windows 10. bottom taskbar - "Type here to search" -- Type in System Restore. It will open system restore. Choose to restore.

Mine opened with a date of 11/14, approx. a week ago. I think they all open with a restore date approx. a week before the current date.

I did that and found system restore. The restore dates are after I cleared the cache. It won't let me pick out earlier date. I have done this before but now I can't figure out how.

I did more research and apparently you can't create a restore date earlier than when you click create restore date. Tell me if that is correct.

Seems to me that I remember that you could create an earlier restore date in a previous version of windows.

I guess if you are installing something new or something similar, you should go in and create a restore date first. Or just go in and create a restore date now for future use. I just wonder how long it will keep that restore date.

That brings me to restore but not able to set restore back several days.

You can ONLY restore back to the earliest date you already have a restore point for. You cannot make a different restore point for any time in history as they system would not have a way to "know" what system files consisted of at any prior time. If you have no restore points far enough back you will have to institute plan B (rebuild best you can).

Considering that Windoze is a micro$oft product the restore procedure is one of the few things from them that works relatively reliably.

I am no computer guru but I'm 99% sure I used to do that, maybe it was on Windows 7. I have old windows 7 computer I think I'll go see if it works that way.
