I have a 1950's Jaeger air compressor with an f226 continental engine and I am looking for a starter for it. I know there are a lot of these out there, but I am having trouble finding one. I cannot rebuild the old one, as it had mechanical failure. Anyone have an idea where I can get one.

Probably has a Delco on it right? Search their site catalog under non automotive then find a dealer. Might also try montesequipment.com or continentalengines.com or Wiscon wisconsinmotors.com

Probably can"t help you but Willys used the 226 engine and the 134 and 226 used some of the same parts such as starter drive and armature. I would look for a one man starter store that has been around for a long time. If you give me the # of the starter I will look in my catalog. The # will be like MCL 6131.

Willys, Kaiser/Fraser, and Studebaker all used the F226 engine in various automobiles. I wouldn't think the starter would be different for an agricultural application, but you never know. Willys jeep parts are readily available on the web. The F226 was used in Willys pickups and wagons in the 50's & early 60's.

Willys Jeep used the 226 in 12 volt 61-65 and maybe more. The 12 volt starter # is MDU 7003. The 12 volt for 58-60 models is MDM 6006. I don't have anything listed for Jaeger nor can I find the #MCL6131.Sorry.
