conversion kit

lot of guys use the petronix kits for the conversions and have good luck with them. i prefer to just leave the old points ignition in . i can toss a extra tune up kit in the tool box, points, condenser, cap and rotor, and if the tractor breaks down, you can do a field repair and get yourself home.

The Pertronix kits work well and essentially just bolt in. The kits are available from this site.

You remove the points and condenser, screw in the Pertronix and slip a magnet over the cam. Then set the timing and you no longer worry about it.

I have used Pertronix on several cars and tractors with out any failures. No more changing points. For a while I kept the old parts with the car just in case but never had to use them.

An easy job? It's actually a lot easier than that. It's downright scary simple, much easier than replacing points and condensor since you don't have to adjust the points gap.

ranba.......the 4-nipple squarecan frontmount distributor is NOT the most successful Pertronix conversion. It is very low voltage sensitive and most 6-volt batterys gitt dragged down by the starter motor and suddenly yer $150 Electronic Ignition don't work. (frown) Let alone the POORLY written Pertronix instructions that become nearly impossible for neubie shadetree mechanics. While the 12-volt Pertronix is better, you haffta convert to 12-volts, thats 'nutter' $150. Sheesh $300 to replace $20 set of points. You do know ittza 2-bolt, 15-min job to REMOVE yer frontmount distributor and change the points (0.015") on the kitchen table, don't you??? You can NOT install outta time due to the OFF-SET cam drive scheme. Simple, eh? ......respectfully, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
