Do you think they are worth $40 for all 3?
Nope, the Stanley/Bailey planes were made in New Britain Connecticut. Leonard Bailey was a plane maker and designer in the mid-1800's, and Stanley Rule & Level Co. bought seven patent rights from Bailey and began producing planes based on these designs in the 1870's.(quoted from post at 11:11:29 02/27/22) The top-of-the-line Stanley planes carried the Bailey label, and were made in the UK.
Nope. Those are the "economy grade" planes sold to the homeowner/DIY market. They'll probably give him nothing but misery. The frogs are stamped steel and not heavy or strong enough to prevent chattering or to hold the iron true. The irons (blades) are a lesser quality of steel and won't hold a good edge. More than likely the soles are warped or bowed and won't ride true on a board in order to flatten it.(quoted from post at 07:11:54 02/27/22) Do you think they are worth $40 for all 3?
