Hey gang, I have an IH planter thats planting two kernels of corn at time. The guy at Coop told me I needed c24, I could only find c25s. Any suggestions Thanks and have a great day.

Make sure your cut offs are good and working freely, and the springs in them are good, get a larger seed, or a smaller plate.

I think donjr is on to it.

If the cell is to long two seeds can stand on end vs. lying in the cell. If too thick, two seeds can lay on each other. If too wide, they will go through side by side. If the cutoff is not working it will not clear off the second seed setting on the one that does not quite fill the cell.

I use an old Oliver plate planter so I am not up on Lincoln plates. But, I would get about a dozen kernels and toss them in the planter to see how they lay in the cells. It should fill the cell at least by say 75-80% (Length, width, depth). If it doesn’t you run the risk of doubles.

If it looks right, tape over the drop hole and place a small amount of seed on the side towards the cut off. Spin it over and see what the seed in the cells coming out the other side look like. This should be roughly what is being dropped.

I do this every year because I cannot get sized sweet corn seed. I have a hopper that can sort less than 1/4 x 1/4 (Smalls, usually a small flat), less than a 1/4 x 1/2 (Flat plate), larger than 1/4 (Round plate). This way I have some resemblance of size. Then I run a few test samples through a spare unit with the drop port blocked to see which plate is best to use for that years seed. I do that for each of the three sizes and just use the right plate with the right batch.

Try Lincoln Ag Parts. They carry all the IH and JD planter plates. I sold all of mine last year. Had almost 200 plates. May also want to check ebay.
