corn planter

Here is a corn planter I found on ebay, it is the cheapest so far by about $300. what are the good and bad about it?

It looks like a Ford 309 planter. I have, had one. It is sitting idle in my shed rusting away. The biggest problem I had with it was that it did not have individual depth control for each seed row. On my Western PA. hills one row would be too deep and the other out of the ground. I was trying to plant sweet corn with it and did not want to plant deep. I had planted field corn with it and it worked fine. Be sure to clean out the fertilizer hopper real well. If you are interested I have lots of seed plates and also a Gandy insecticide hopper for it. As well as a tattered manual. I finally bit the bullet and bought a 3ph unit with JD 7002 units.

The plates can be hard to find. I have a Dearborn planter. Ford bought out Dearborn in the early 50's, and produced Dearborn equipment under the Ford name. My planter can use Ford 309 plates with a little modification. I paid $75 for the planter a few years ago.
