I just wonder, how they planted all that corn in 1944 with old 25 to 40 HP tractors and plowing all that ground. Of course there were a lot more farmers then.

What they are not noticing yet is the significant lack of cattle. Wait till that hits the market.

Yeah probably had 20+farmers running 100 acres's or less a peice. Now that 2000 acres is ran by 1 or 2 farmers. I know my grandad was a thin lean rail with bags under his eyes cause he worked sun up to sun down at the least every day but Sunday. I wonder if they are figuring all the corn that was planted that is now wilting and drying up or being drowned out. Around here if it isnt irrigated it isnt gonna make it another week without rain.

Yea, just look at old B&W pictures from the 40's and 50's even the early 70'S. People as a whole, myself included have gotten a lot bigger. It is dry as a bone here. Rained all around me for 4 days and I haven't gotten any here. Raining heavy now in parts of Ky south of me.

That may be but a lot of the ground that makes up that extra 19% is marginal ground at best. And a lot was planted way later than it should have been. Not sure what beans ended the day at but for a while they were locked up the limit at 50 cents! Go beans go. We have a long long ways to go till we know what kinda crop is really out there. Pretty dry in some spots.

Its having some "unintended consequences"- Local hay in western Washington has about doubled in price since last year- I'm paying $3.50 a bale, paid $1.75 last year. The guy I'm buying from put up quite a bit during a warm spell in May- Advertised on Craig's List, kind of as a joke, and had people lined up from 100 miles away to get it. One woman said she always bought her hay in the irrigation circle country of eastern Washington (Columbia Basin project)- went over this year, and all the old hay ground was planted to corn. I imagine the oil cartels will just lower the price of gas enough to break the ethanol plants when they all come on line, but it will be a spectacular bust when it happens.
