Correct model 60 steering wheel

I see pics of tractors that have the three and four spoke steering wheel. Which is correct for the year 1953 Model 60?

Thanks again, Ray

That’s interesting, I’ve been told the 4 spoke was for the 70. I have a 4 spoke on my 56 60 and many folks have told me it was wrong and must have been put on as an easier to use replacement by some old farmer. Grandpa bought the tractor in the early 1960’s and says it was on it when he got it. I replaced it with a 4 spoke because I liked the way it looked and it steered easier. (the 4 spoke is larger diameter than the 3 spoke) All of the wheels I saw in the 60 parts catalog were 3 spoke.

Ray, all of the 60's came factory equipped with a three spoke steering wheel, whether or not the tractor had power steering. It was on the 70's where there was a difference. The four spoke wheel was often installed on manual steering tractors for precisely the reason mentioned- they made the tractor steer easier. But originally the tractor would have had a three spoke wheel. Mike

Ray. Your steering wheel should be a 3 spoke design. 17 & 5/8 in diameter with a keyed hub. JD part# AA380R. There are aftermarket ones available at present. Where are you located?

Here is where I bought my wheels, well I bought one or two from here and a couple from eBay;

The seat is also an important part that is usually skimped on by “restorers”, the seat and the wheel are the parts that touch the guy who is sending the money, you’d think they wouldn’t skimp there.
You’d be surprised at the difference between the cheap plywood/foam seats and the original style steel backed, riveted, spring support seats.
I got my seats for like $110 new on eBay for both the bottom cushion and the back.

Thanks for all the answers. Thanks for the website info. Its what Ive been looking for.

Thanks again, Ray
Keep warm , its freezing in
PA.

I saw photos of alabamafrog's 60 with the big 4-spoke wheel and liked it, so I ordered one of those and it does make it steer easier. Mine is non-power steering. Paul in Mississippi

I bought a repo seat bottom with springs years ago when they first came out. It is sure alot nicer then the foam over plywood,but it still isn't as good as a mint original I have. The originals gave much more spring support.

I’ve never sat on an original seat, when I was growing up one tractor had a rough cut 1x12 for a seat and another had a sack stuffed with rags stapled to a piece of wood, the best one was an old chair cushion. Needless to say I spent a lot of time driving standing up. Looking back I wonder if we were really that poor or if Dad and Grandpa were just that cheap.
