crack in coil

there is a crack right next to the spring tab on my front mount 12 coil and the cork gasket is black between the spring tab and coil spring. could this be the reason that my tractor is running like crap?

It sure could.

Once "bakelite" read distributor cap, coil whetever, get hot enough from electric arc or whatever....

It turns into carbon, carbon is a conductor of electricity, bakelite is not in it's designed form.

I say replace it.

Folks say "cracked" distributor cap....

It is a "tracked" distributor cap, a carbon track, that turned that part of the distributor cap into carbon.

And is eaiser for the spark to get to ground, instead of thru the plugs.
