i have an 8n with a hairline crack from one headbolt to another one,it barely weeps.is there a fix that doesnt require removing the head?i am afraid if i take the head off i will find more problems with it and this tractor gets very little use.
thanks for any ideas,
t bob

If it goes from 1 head bolt to another, it can't get any worse. I would just use it till when and if it leaks where you can't use it then fix it.

I would pull that head and replace it before it does in fact cause you other problems which could in the long run cost you a whole engine. A crack that leaks can also mean water/coolant in the engine which in turn can/will cause it to lock up and then your looking at MAJOR work to fix it. If you fix it now you can keep it in the $100 range if you hold off it could cost you $1500

I had a 8n like that. I grooved the crack and welded with nickel using the no preheat method. I welded into the nuts. Will have to grind the weld away when the head is taken off someday.
