Crank problem

I have a 1945 Farmall H. The crank will neither push in or turn the rod sticking out the front of the tractor. Does anyone have any ideas on how to break it loose.? thank you

You could squirt some lube in there and start tapping it back and forth. Got a little at a time each way. With just a couple taps on the shaft u will soon know how bad it’s stuck. Then u will know what you’re in for. As you don’t say how hard you Tryed to move it. Pretty normal for them to be stuck from lack of use.

To say with any degree of accuracy I would need ALOT MORE information. If the tractor has ran for you recently plus what happened when it stopped running.

Assuming you dragged it from junk pile and do not know history of tractor, I suggest mixing 1 pint each of diesel, transmission fluid and acetone. Pour 1/2 cup of mixture in each sparkplug hole and allow to soak a few day then attempt to turn engine with crank. If it's still stuck, add another 1/4 cup mixture, put transmission in high gear then rock tractor by pushing & pulling on a rear tire and watch for fan blade to move. Rock tractor a few times each day you have time. If it hasn't unstuck after a month you'll have to disassemble engine and rebuild it.

I think he is only talking about the hand crank.

I think he's only saying that the hand crank mechanism doesn't work. And rustred's reply is right on target for that.
Hi Folks, Yes, I am talking about the hand crank. I have sprayed creeping oil in there. I have tapped it in toward the motor, But I can't get at it to tap it back out. and I have tried to turn it with a pipe wrench. But I don't want to hit it or twist it too hard because I don't want to break something. I am sure it has not been used in years. But I want to turn the engine just a little so the grease zerk for the through out bearing will line up with the small hole in the bottom of the engine. thank you guys for all the help.

Heating it to deep red at about an inch from the bolster, then cooling it to ambient temp about 5 times can do the trick. apply your creeping oil when it cools enough to keep it from smoking off. Jim Another way to turn it is to pull the plugs and use the fan. I believe there is a mark on the front pulley that aligns with the timing pointer when the grease fitting is at the hole. Jim

With a bar stuck in below the fan or beside the fan between the end of crankshaft and crank hub for lack of better word tap the bar so it moves forward. If it moved some already back it should move forward with some more pea added to the front or back ends or both. there is a grease fittin on the bottom of the front casting wqhere the crank hub goes through the casting if you look up under the front of the tractor behind the front wheels about the location of under the radiator and gotten from the bottom. May need a new zerk to take grease now.
