Crescent wrench

Someone gave me some tools and I was blown away by this crescent wrench. It's not a plastic toy, it's an actual functioning crescent wrench.

I've seen guys put one of those on their key ring- with that and a Leatherman in your pocket, you can do a surprising amount of quick fixes.

I carry a 4 inch 704 Proto brand crescent wrench in my pocket on my key ring. I call it my magic wrench. I've had one since a little before I got out of the Navy and every one in my devison was given one

There are people who collect the 4" adjustable wrenches. Usually they want the ones with the maker's name on the handle, though.

I have one like yours in my collection.

Adjustable wrench. I have a Crescent 1 and 1/8 inch combination wrench and 6 inch side cut pliers as well as 4 in thru 12 inch Crescent adjustable wrenches as well as a Proto 24 inch adjustable wrench also 15 inch and 18 inch adjustable wrenches of brands I do not remember without looking.

I have a 4" Diamalloy like that but it's rusted up after I dropped in under the manifold of the 5.4 Triton. I retrieved it from the mouse nest when I changed the gaskets.

Here is my wrench that I got in Navy during the late fifties. I carried it on my key ring while in the Navy and for many years in civilian life.

Used to be a couple guys(thieves) that would come into the parts yard I worked part time at years ago they could get more parts off quicker with one of those wrenches then we could
with a fully decked out box of tools and a torch.I keep an eye on anyone I see carry one of those wrenches to this day.(LOL)

I have carried a 4" Crescent wrench (made by Crescent tool Co. Jamestown, N.Y. for several years now. It's like me, it has some age on it. Gets used quite often too.

I have two, both Craftsman. Very handy, they have worn out several jeans pockets. Saved many a trip to the truck or toolbox. joe

I've got one of those on my service truck, and another in the tool box in the shop. I've also got one of the small slip joint pliers like was shown in another of the pics in this thread.

What can I say, I've got another adjustable wrench that will handle a hex up to 4 3/4. Between the BIG one, the little one, and the others in between, who needs regular wrenches.....LOL.....

Carry the same tool on a key ring also. Surprising how often you need it. Bought it at NAPA. Clerk told me I wouldn't like how much it would cost. Told'm how much it had cost me NOT to have it.

I had remembered you having one of these from an old post, and looked for your post on it here again, have the same exact one, dont recall where I got it, but it's been here at least 30 years. This is a very handy and useful tool.

Here is a Spyderench just like mine. I carried it until a factory rep from Spyderco told me they didn?t make them anymore. Then he took a closer look and said it was made in the USA, one of the first ones made. The rest were made overseas. A conversation piece as well as a very handy tool. I paid less than the eBay auction price 20 + years ago.

I have a pipe wrench that opens to 1" and measures 6 3/4 long when opened. There is a name on it but can not read it .

I have one of the little channel lock pliers you show here. It was my dads but these days it doesn't do the things it did when dad carried it... I'm the oldest of 11 siblings and don't think it's an exaggeration to say that he pulled a dozen teeth with it.. I tried it with my son when he was young but between him and my wife I'd probably have gone to jail if I pursued it....

For most of my early life I used "Crescent" wrenches regardless of manufacturer. Years later while at work we were in a training session about using company trade names as Proper Nouns....said we could lose our Patent rights. So, I find out that Crescent is a manufacturer of "adjustable wrenches".

So later in life when Metrics were making their way into the production of US goods, the joke out was something like "show me a Metric Crescent wrench.

No joke, have one in my tool box from HF, Metric on one side, SAE on the other adjustable wrench....not Crescent brand.

yea I have one for years its on keychain and it does work, but not for whole lot, I used to carry it but no longer do it was good for make holes in pockets, it hangs in my toy collection now.
