cub battery

hi
I bought a 55 Cub today at auction. It has a 12 volt battery in it but still has a generator on it. It cranks real good but this concerns me for safety reasons should I be? Could this cause a fire or burn wires
Thanks for your input

I think some of the later ones had 12V generators. It should have about 12V when off, and 13-14V when running.

55 would have originally had a 6 volt battery. A 12 volt generator may have been installed, or they may have just bought a cheap 12 volt battery and stuck in it to sell it. Run it for a while and see if the battery goes down. There is no more danger of a fire with that system then the original if it is wired right.

Even if the generator is 6V and the battery is 12V, there is no risk of a fire.

It just won't charge.
