cub cadet deck spindle

hey guys
quick question/situation
i purchased a cub cadet 1529 at an auction with a 46" deck. I was greasing it up and went to grease the deck spindles and encountered quite a bit of resistance. So, naturally, i pumped harder which then blew grease out the side of the spindle housing - seems to be some kind of pot metal.
put it back together, turns very hard.
so, couple questions.
1. how easily should the blades spin w/ no belt or anything attched? should there be any resistance at all? i started taking the spindles apart because it seemed to struggle with engaging the mower...w/o full throttle it shut down.
2. is there a cheaper alternative to the cub cadet/mtd part listed? can"t find used parts and seems to be no cheap aftermarket spindles made for this particular model...very frustrating...

If this is the newer quick attach deck they should spin easily with one finger without the belt on. That should be true of almost any deck and certainly it is that way on all the decks I've dealt with. I have found that the newer mowers with electric pto clutches due to they way they dump the clutch full engine speed is required. On my new cub if the engine is not at full throttle when the PTO is engaged it can cause the belts to jump pulleys.

also, on the spindle that was on there, the part # was 619-04023
this is not the part # listed by cub cadet, or any of the replacements...i can't find any spindles online with that part #

OK..Blade spindle(either)or center spindle..I suspect right or left(same).IF the number posted was on the alum/pot metal casting,it was most likely a casting number(NOT)part number.All three spindles on that deck are rebuildable,however no number is listed for the cast housing??If it is damaged you may need to aquire an entire spindle "assembly" to obtain it(check w/dealer).Casting may have been damaged by shockload of blade striking something,heat from dragging bearing(s),or even by grease gun overpressure(even a handgun can generate 100s of pounds of pressure if forced).Following link should show you the deck parts and part numbers.
Once you have the numbers...Punch them into GOOGLW Search,one at a time to locate WIDE range of prices for same/compatible part.
