Hi, I've been redirected here from the Restoration and Repair board by glennster. Said I should find help here, especially rusty farmall.
I have a IH Cub Lo-Boy that the carb is leaking (dripping fuel) What I'd like to do is find a rebuild kit. I cant id the carb and a local small shop cant id it either. The carb only has the "IH" logo on it with no numbers. How can I id the carb mfg'er and find a rebuild kit? I also dont know (but would like to) is if the tractor is a 154, 184 or just a Lo-Boy. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

teryy, ya gotta holler a little loud for us older guys!!! rusty, can ya help this fellow tractor guy out locating some parts for his carb??

Look at the ATIS Cub FAQ. Near the bottom of the first page is a picture of each major version of the Cub, along with a serial number list for each. Pick yours out of the pictures:

Most likely you have the original Cub carburetor that was built by IH. There is/was a part number stamped into the top of the carb, not easy to read. Look at the picture of the replacement carburetor on TM Tractor Parts at the URL below. If it looks the same, there's your answer.

If you have that carb, get a genuine IH kit from the dealer or TM tractor Parts. Or you can get one of the rebuild kits from TM or Steiners. The other kits are NOT good kits. Avoid them unless you enjoy doing the same job twice.

I would definitely follow Jim's advice regarding the links AND about buying the IH kit. Also go to Farmallcub "dot" com and talk to the great folks there. They strongly recommend the IH or TM kits there although I bought mine from Steiner and had no trouble.

IH Cub carbs are fussy little things and, since no one has mentioned it, if you open that carb up be sure to seperate the parts straight up from each other until you clear the idle tube. I would have broken mine off if it hadn't already been broke by the last guy. Other than that the rebuild was straight forward and the tractor started and ran well when completed.

Good luck with it but (really!) be sure to hit the Cub website for great advice and links also.

Thank you all for the advice its been very appreciated. I did go to the IH website and found a dealer within driving distance. I didnt even know they were still around! Spoke with him and he does have the IH kits in stock. So Tuesday I’m off to see him with my carb. It’s a little drive but worth it I think. And I did bookmark the websites for the future. Which I’m sure I will be visiting again! With your help I was able to look up the serial number – not sure what to make of it. Long story short: given the tractor by father-in-law, wife says it came with the house that they bought in nov of 63’ , serial no. 24883J in the chart is listed as a 68’ – so, do I believe the chart or my wife? I know which way I’ll go at home. Thanks to Dave H and Jim – it should make my project go a lot easier. And glennster – I’ll try and shout louder in the future!! (and I thought I was the only one getting old and hard of hearing!)
