hi,
I did a dumb thing. I quick shifted my cub from first to reverse and back. the result is a loud clicking noise in first and reverse, but not in second or third. took the cover off but don't see anything obviously wrong. any ideas?
thanks

You either broke or chipped a gear, maybe two. Missing teeth should be eady to spot, damage is not always so easy. Drain the tramsmission into a clean steel pan. Rinse the gears with solvent or K1 and blow them off. Then using a strong light look carefully but damage can still be hard to see. Also inspect the drain pan for chunks. If you can't see any damage you have to make a choice, dissasembly or run it until failure. Lots of chore tractors have been run with clicking gears. Won't last long on a hard pull but will putter around for quite a while sometimes, you do risk damaging other components if you choose that route.

with the cover off, and one rear wheel raised, in gear, and the clutch depressed, rotate the wheel while watching the cluster and low/reverse slider. Bet you see a missing tooth.
