My question for the day is: why would anyone buy a 1957 smooth butt cub? I acquired one from a neighbor that his grand dad bought new. Of the hundreds of cubs around, this is the only one shipped without a pto that I have ever seen. Thanks!

i didn't know they made them that way, but when i bought my '48 the pto had never been used, the guy i bought it from had been around it all his life, [ his father bought 2 of them new] and he told me they never did have any pto driven equipment on their farm, just a small 40 acre place , i suppose it may have been used in a similar place but ive never seen a cub without a pto, that definitely doesn't mean they didn't make them though

There is no real need for it unless you're mowing or running something off a belt pulley. I only use mine for cultivating, discing and planting so I could care less about a pto and I have an H with a belt pulley.

My Dad baught a 54 Cub from an old farmer who grew row vegies. It came with no PTO as he only used it to cultivate. Dad and I added a PTO to use a cutter bar mower.

I have seen that quite a bit with Cubs, As, SAs, and even a few Cs and SCs--- most of them came from a southern state and were bought to do nothing but plant and cultivate tobacco. Here in SE Indiana, we would see them at consignment auctions where the tractor jockeys had bought them on the cheap down in KY or TN and were hoping to flip them quickly. The problem was, most guys up here were wanting them to outfit with a belly mower, so the PTO delete hurt them.
