I have a 49 cub and i went to drain the coolant and discovered that the hole where the drain plug goes is
stripped out. The previous owner had wrapped enough teflon tape around the plug to make it stay. I aint
doing that. What do i do now ? Any suggestions, please.

This will work if th threads are just abused. Use a pipe tap to chase the existing threads a little deeper than they are now, maybe 1/8 inch farther in with the tap. then use a new pipe plug and the tape so it follows the threads and goes in deeper. You could use a short (close nipple, and epoxy it in place. Then use a pipe cap on that nipple. The expander plug shown in the link is another solution. Jim
Expansion plugs will work.

I am not sure what size of pipe thread a Cub has but my best guess would be 1/4 inch NPT, so if a 1/4 tap does not clean the threads to seal then drill it to tap to 3/8 inch, 3/8 to 1/2 if needed. Sorry I have no idea of how accessible the drain plug location is. Actually, the rubber expansion plug Jim mentioned will work fine.

I'm not so sure about having meat enough to go up one size. There isn't a lot of extra material in that area. A close look at the casting is called for and should easily answer the question either way.
