Cultipacker Questions

How close together are the "discs" supposed to be on a good cultipacker? I looked at a couple that seemed to have a lot of play on the shaft. How much would an average 8 or 9-footer weigh?

Make sure that they're close enough that they don't "walk" from side to side on the drum.

We had a few rings missing on our <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFhgBN-bSK0">8ft. Brillion Sure Stand Seeder</a>.

Moved them closer together and welded a couple of "stops" on the drum.

Don't have any idea how much one weighs.

I can't help you with the weight either. But I had to replace a couple of rings on my Brillion... book says they're supposed to be tight together.
Just a thought about weight... maybe take a peek at Brillion' sweb site - they have weights listed, I think... should at least get you close.

No books handy but think about a hundred pounds per foot for a single, lot more for a double.

I helped a feller take one out of a shed with the loader on his 4610 4x4. It made the rear of that tractor awful light, so I'm gonna guess 2500 lbs minimum!

i guess when new the rollers were touching, but old cultipackers can take a lot of abuse and still get the job done.

nothing will make seed come up any better than using sometype of old cultipacker.

they are getting harder to find and much more expensive, i got mine years ago for $50 and it still does a great job.

I am guessing what you had was a wheel carried cultimulcher and not a cultipacker as your weight would be in the ball park for that. That would be for a double roller and with the 2 rows of teeth and probably 15' wide.

Depending on the width, that might be pretty close for a double roller. I just looked at Brillion's web site; a 8' single roller w/o transports or any options is 1160-some pounds; the 12' double roller seeder I use is 2615 pounds.
