Cultivator Compatibility

Hi Everybody,
I am interested in getting a Farmall Super A or preferable Super AV to do some cultivating on my little homestead. I have a little newer tractor with a bucket and 3 point hitch and everything. I'd like a dedicated piece of history to do a little work and look beautiful. Basically another girlfriend.
Anyway, I keep seeing affordable running options ($1500-3000) that do not have cultivators and more expensive options that do. I believe I can get a set of cultivators also relatively inexpensively. My skills as to refurbishing are basically patient sanding and painting.
My question is: do I have to find a set of cultivators specifically for an AV or Super A-by-year or a 100 or 140, or will are there ranges of compatibility? Should I just hold out for one with cultivators?
Thanks so much for your time and have a great weekend!

I have Super As, a 140, and an IH 274. All cultivator attachments will fit them as they would a 100
and 130 tractors. Not sure at all about an AV, but my guess is that the individual cultivator
shanks and clamps from an A and B would work and perhaps some of the frame parts from an A as well.

I think you should buy a tractor with the cultivators ready on it. Or at least put on the set that supposedly goes on the tractor before buying. I find many times parts are missing from a set and maybe the seller doesn't even know that. Parts that bolt to the tractor often get left on the tractor when sold and thus the left over cultivators are missing those parts. The high crop versions AV thru 140V require cultivators specific to the high crop tractor and are hard to find so be careful. Also high crop tractors travel over the ground faster due to larger rear tires, so unless it has a slow 1st gear option you will be traveling almost too fast.

To clarify cultivator assembles , high
clear only fit high clear v . Anything
before super only fit before super. 318-
542-0896 if I can help , I also have 2
super AV 's to many

I agree with DaveBN, for all the reasons he stated.

Compatibility, I can think of a half dozen different categories:

version 1
A

version 2
AV

version 3
Super A, 100, 130, 140 without Fast-Hitch

version 4
Super A, 100, 130, 140 with Fast-Hitch

version 5
Super AV, 100 HC, 130 HC, 140 HC

version 6
274

Note that no distinction is made for High Clearance tractors with/without Fast-Hitch. This is because the factory didn't put Fast-Hitch on those tractors. If you get one of them, you are on your own for fitting implements. Some of the versions aren't much different and could be made to work. Others have major differences. The easiest would probably be between versions 3 and 4. Don't use these version numbers. I just made them up to answer this question. Use them and nobody will know what you are talking about.

(quoted from post at 15:25:48 09/02/23) I have Super As, a 140, and an IH 274. All cultivator attachments will fit them as they would a 100

To clarify, the upper mounting frames for the IH 274 are different than those of a Super A, 100, 130, and 140. I've currently own Cubs, A's, Super A's, 100's, 130's, and 140's; and I used to have an IH 274. I have compared and tried to mount all combinations and only the Super A, 100, 130, 140 cultivators are compatible with each other with the exception of the Fast Hitch specific pieces. All of the Cub cultivators, Farmall 'A' cultivators, and IH 274 cultivators are model specific. Notice the bottom horizontal bar and the "knee" bracket on the IH 274 upper frame. The horizontal bar has 2 bends in it where the Super A-140 bar is straight. The "knee" bracket on the 274 is longer on the bottom than the Super A-140 version. These upper mounting frames WILL NOT interchange. Tried it, didn't come close to working.

Now the feet (shanks), the cuffs, different style tools, and some of the tool bars will interchange between all models. Here are some pictures of mine to reference.....

the cultivators are different from the FARMALL A to the FARMALL SUPER A as SA IS HY and the A is handlift or exhaust lift and the cults are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE
