Looking to put a cultivator on a 72 4020, I know zero on this so please dumb it down for me. What should I be looking for as far as model or size? Also what is an approximate cost for acquiring one?

Thanks Trav

Does your 4020 have a wide frt or tricycle frt axle? The following models in photo will fit. The model FM will fit also.

Here's some more models for frt mount cultivators that will fit a 4020.

AT20, AT40, AT630, AU20 and AU40 Row-Crop Cultivators

AT400A, AT600A, AT800A, AT830A, AT1220A, AT1230A and AT1620A Row-Crop Cultivator

I never have operated a front mount cultivator. I have only used rear mount cultivators ranging in size of 6 to 12 rows. I do remember having one similar to the one posted here on our 3010. It might have been attached to our 3020 just once, but that would have been about it. It was a 4 row wide set for 38 inch rows. In the early 1970's, we switched to 6 row narrow equipment set on 30 inches. It was at that point when we switched our row crop cultivators over to rear mount on the three point hitch. My dad grew up and learned with front mount cultivators, running them for over 20 years. He never regretted the change. For you, Trav, it might be rather difficult finding a front mount row crop cultivator. I have never looked on any website looking for one, and I suspect you may find some, if that is what you want, but I feel pretty confident in sharing that rear mount cultivators are going to be far easier to find and acquire.......................but that is my opinion.

Thanks for all the info. It's a narrow front tractor. Im going organic so I'm hoping the cultivator will help protect my investment.

Model T4 will fit a narrow front new generation tractor. A front rockshaft might be harder to find than the cultivator.

An FM or a 725 are definitely the best options. They can be run on separate cylinders if you have dual hydraulics, allowing you to lift one side when working in point rows. They're the strongest frame and the easiest to mount and dismount. Prices are widely variable. I've bought them for $200 and I've seen them sell for $2500.
