in north Carolina in kinda sandy and light dirt (not black dirt like in Illinois and so on heavy soil) trying to figure out what kind of sweeps to put on 2 row cultivator for growing sweet corn, peas, beans. didnt know there was 30 different pitches and wings. does anyone have a file showing what all the different sweeps do as in how much soil it moves to root and covering plants and so on? or where i can go to get some information on a PDF file? thanks for the help getting ready for the early crop down here starting to finally warm up just a tad. still have about another month or so though but very anxious to get ole 2N out moving some dirt.

Look for a set of rolling cultivators,,, for go the sweeps. I set a rear non adjustable cultivator up with winged sweeps,,, it did not work well. Sweeps work best on adjustable shanks. Are keep your eyes out for a deal on a Farmall 100/130/140,,, NC is blessed with them

duramax - how many shanks are on your cultivator and how many acres will you cultivate? Are there points on the shanks already and what variety?

nice looking about the size of mine if you put the corn on the side of yours instead of being so long. But about the same size then i have a smaller one in back yard i use for wifey cloves and so on. been trying to find a 2 row planter but everyone i talked to has been made out of gold.. 3000.00 down to 1500.00 i too cheap do it with a b1001 hand planter just have to make sure rows are straight with a 2 row cult. good luck with another nice garden

the first row are chisel points and the last 2 rows are 6 reg sweeps no pitch on wings or anything. heard of the danish to get the weeds to top so they can dry out or they have said the beet it doesnt move much soil but rips the weeds right out. about an acre a lil less b/w both gardens one garden is like hobo below pics with the corn size in with his other garden.

You can control the amount of soil you throw to the row with speed, depth and choosing soil moisture conditions under which to cultivate. Narrow chisel points are more forgiving for adjusting speed and depth and often allow you to cutivate in 2nd gear. The wider sweeps can put a real load on the N's with a two row (in my soil), but since you are working a small area, 1st gear and sweeps sounds like the ticket. Come on Spring!
