Curious about 4890 Power Shift

Service Manual says to remove engine to service the Power Shift on a 4890, or any CASE Tractor actually. My question is, why can't the tranny be dropped and removed leaving the engine in place? Seems to me it would be easier?

John I can't speak about a 4890 from personal experience but the first 2470 that the dealership where I worked developed a crack in the transmission case. Since this was about '72 or '73 I had about 2 years experience and the other guy was fresh out of tech school. Also I don't remember the details from 50 plus years ago but we worked on it for a solid week. With all the drive shafts, hydraulic lines, electric wires, and control cables that need to be unhooked to move the transmission back to clear the engine I think it is easier to pull the engine.

It's way easier to pull the motor than to drop the transmission, the transmission would need to be pulled to the rear to get the shafts out of the flywheel plus I think the transmission is to tall to get out the bottom, the engine R&R is not that bad if you have over head hoist's but like any other repair they take time and money

Thanks for the reply men. It was a passing thought.
