It seems in certain regions of the US, any piece of tillage equipment that engages the soil is called a plow, even if it isn't a plow. I've seen row-crop cultivators called 'cotton plows' or 'corn plows', offset disc harrows called 'disc plows', tandem disc harrows called 'tandem plows', even one of those combination machines some call "Do-Alls" called a 'finishing plow'. And then some say it's just disc, not disc harrow. Then is it disc or disk? Moldboard plow, turning plow or breaking plow? No, a disc plow is a breaking plow.

Well this boy uses a large diameter, heavily weighted, tandem disc harrow as a plow, or if unweighted, a cultivator with a chain-link, spiked harrow, chained to the rear. Works great and cuts a wide swath where a lot of "plows" only cut a partial width row by comparison.

I don’t believe that. Go on an old alfalfa field and them disc’s won’t even go in the ground. Lots of times if it’s dry the moldboard won’t cut in either. You need to plow after a rain. Them disc’s are more like a tiller which works in stubble field. And in them days it was crop one year and summer fallow the next year. These disc plows would be used to turn over the weeds and wild oats to bury them as fertilizer. Nobody used these modern fertilizers or sprays back then. Other than cow manure and that’s a weed spreader Also.

That all depends on soil condition, how you have your tandem disc setup, and how much soil disturbance you want. If its the end of the growing season and I don't want stubble to suck up nutrients in my field, one pass is sufficient to turn the stubble under, getting the roots exposed, and killing the plants.
