Current leakage in electrical system

On my 1955, as far back as last fall, I have had an electrical short some where that drains the battery. I replaced the battery in January, thinking that it was the problem--didn't help. A couple of months ago, I replaced the alternator-didn't help either. An Oliver mechanic said the starter might have a short in it. Another friend mentioned the amp gauge. What is my next step? I am tired of having to disconnect the battery ground cable to keep the battery from going down.

Could take a probe and unhook a wire on the alternator, or anything you might suspect. check to see of it's drawing any juice. Also check your ignition switch. Also check for any warm wires that could be a weak short.

Parasitic draws are easy to find. All you need for special tools is a test light. Disconnect one of the battery terminals and put the test light between the terminal and post. If you have a draw, the test light lights up. From there, disconnect individual circuits one at a time. When the light goes off, thats where your problem is.

These small shorts can sometimes burn you down, please unhook battery until you got her fixed.

Is your tractor a diesel or gas?

I can send you several tips if you like, I have a lot of experience with the electricals on these tractors, be glad to help. I have a schematic to send also?

There several continuous connections to the battery which include, starter solenoid, ampmeter, preheater switch, starter switch, voltage regulator and cigar lighter. I have to look at the print to see if I've left anything out.

good luck!
