Cut barley yesterday

Cut my barley yesterday with my 955 swather.

There is nothing as pretty as a field of grain ready to cut.

Going to try to bale some hay today and hopefully combine this barley by the end of the week.

Is the purpose of the swather to let the straw and heads dry down before combining? Think I cut barley once a hundred years ago, remember it as being itchy.

Yes, let's weeks and green heads dry down. This wasnt bad for weeds but some came up later so done was over ripe and some was a bit green yet. This way the green will dry down and the rope wont drop heads.
