Yesterday while spreaqding fertilizer I noticed that the PTO and connecting flexible shaft were turning but the spinner on the seader was not. It will turn by hand but acts like it is bindibg somewhere. It turns very hard. Any thoughts or anyone with experience using these. It worked fine all morning up until I noticed.

What brand do you have?

Sounds like you have the flexible shaft, might be they are kinda weak, something in there tore apart.

Mine is like this link, with a real pto shaft. If you scroll through a nice exploded view of all the parts.

Mine is a cyclone brand. It has a flexible shaft that goes from the PTO to the spinner blade. I'll contact the factory in Indiana. Parts are supposed to still be available.

There are really only about 3 manufacturers of these things any more, and over half are in Europe. The other companies import a container load at a time and slap their labels on them. An older machine that was made in the USA back when can probably get adapted pretty easy with those flexible shafts. I would guess you can buy that flex shaft from whomever has one in stock and is cheapest they will all be the same, if you check a bit for the ends.

That type of pto drive shaft is very light duty, like some string trimmers use a spring or flexible fiberglass to make the bends but they don’t take much stress and come apart internally.

I stole the one pic from tractorbynet, thanks to those helpful folk too.
