D-14 serial number

AC Experts, I bought a D-14 recently. The location on the torque tube where the serial number should be is pitted and the serial number is gone. Can the engine serial number be used to determine year of manufacture? Can the engine serial number be used to determine tractor serial number?
Thanks,

Maybe, but not really. The model D-14 tractor came out in the Spring of 1957 and was Nebraska Tested the first week in June of 1957. The test tractor had a chassis s/n of 1093. AC's serial numbers usually started at 1001, so that made it the 92nd D-14 ever built. The engine s/n in that tractor was 1481. The G-149 engine s/n's also started at 1001. So how can there be almost 400 more engines than tractors by June of 1957??? Because they made engines for combines, forage harvesters, water pumps, merry-go-rounds and many other things. This much I can tell you.....they made 8400 D-14 tractors in 1957. If your engine s/n isn't any higher than 9400 (remember they started at 1001), your tractor is a 1957 model, assuming it is the original engine than came in the tractor when it was built. I would guess the last D-14 tractor built in 1957 had an engine s/n of around 12,000 or so, but that is only a GUESS.

(quoted from post at 15:48:06 05/07/23) Can anyone tell me where the serial number is stamped on the D14 engine?
It is either directly behind the carburetor/air cleaner hose stamped into the block, or in that same area where the block flange meets the bell housing. It will say 149-xxxxxx-G.
