D-15 power director

Any one know of a trick to get the power director to shift if stuck in forward(high)? I've had the cover off and pried on it pretty hard but didn't move. the Handle moves freely but power director clutch pack just sits there. trying to avoid splitting tractor. I know my grandfather put a clutch in but don't know if power director ever work after that. It has now become my tractor and I'm trying to get it back in good working order. Thanks

If the hand clutch lever moves "freely" back and forth, there are three things possible. #1. the setscrew at the bottom of the hand lever is very loose. #2. the setscrew inside the housing is very loose (it is identical to the one on the outside hand lever) #3. The brass shifting collar inside has failed from lack of oil. When you removed the side cover you should have gotten an oil bath. That housing holds at least 2 gallons of oil. Get a flashlite and look inside at the brass shifting collar and fork and see what in Sam Hill is going on. The whole clutch assembly doesn't really move....only the linkage on the outside of the clutch and the clutch packs internally.
