This is the starter installed on the engine in my parts Big Mo 500. It has a solenoid installed instead of the mechanical switch and push rod. I'm not sure if the solenoid is original or not. It looks similar to the picture in the Big Mo 400M parts manual, page 33, item 36. Anyways, there is a band of metal that connects the solenoid to the starter post and when I crank the starter it glows red. I'm sure this is not normal. Additionally, the starter does not crank as fast as the one on my other tractor which has the later set up with the three bolt mounting and built in solenoid.
When I cross referenced the part number for the solenoid given in the parts manual with NAPA it came up as the mechanical switch. Was there ever a solenoid factory installed on this starter and if there was, what is the part number? Is there another solenoid that I could use or should I go back to the mechanical switch?
Thanks for any help or advice!
