finally got my radiator back from shop and gonna start reassembly. Its been awhile since I tore it apart and my memory aint worth a crap to begin with. I dont remember how those reinforcing strips went. I have 2 small and 2 longer ones. Can someone tell me how they went? Top or bottom, front or back? Thank you.

If I remember correctly, the short ones are for the top and bottom and the long ones for the sides. Lay the out on the tanks and see how the bolt holes match up.

Not to disagree with Tom but I think if you look at the cast side sheets you will see where the engine side top and bottom use a couple of the radiator holes top and bottom, I think the short strips go top and bottom toward the engine and the long ones top and bottom out front. Could be wrong as Its been a few years but when you get to fitting stuff together it will be obvious how they fit.

Update :Got the radiator installed and miraculously no leaks. Wondering if its cooling too good- 125 is as high as it goes and I read somewhere its supposed to be 180-200. I like to think 125 is good.

Well; I wasnt done, guess I hit wrong button lol. Second question: Got my alternator brackets made and all installed but amp gauge still reads zero. Got a 1 wire alternator and wire run to amp meter then from there to starter stud Kinda a pain to get under "dashboard" to work on stuff So except for my 1 wire I left all other wiring in place because they all "looked good". Does that indicate a bad gauge? Or is there a wiring screw up? Sure sounded good when I got er out for a test ride. Thanks in advance.

Idling around will show cooler temp. Put it to work and temp will rise right up there.

Did you put the wire from the alternator on one terminal of the ammeter and the wire to the Battery cable stud on the starter? what you wrote could be interpreted as both are on the same ammeter terminal, in which case charge would not show. Unhook the wire from the battery output post of the alternator and hook a couple head lights to it, does the ammeter show discharge?

Congratulations on getting it back together! 125 sounds low, but with a new core and no load it might be possible, using a thermometer to check coolant against your gauge would give confirmation on temp. I agree your description of your wiring is a little confusing. Using a circuit tester to check voltage when running and when stopped should tell you if the alternator is working. Also the alternator wire should go to one side of the gauge and the wire to the starter should go to the other terminal.

My gauge is an amp meter
Should I put a voltage on it? Or how to test amps ? As you probably guessed, I don't know squat about electric

The wire from the alternator will go to one side of the gauge and the wire from the starter/battery side will go to the other, this will measure the current flowing through the gauge. Checking the voltage with a meter with the tractor off and comparing it with the voltage with the tractor running will also tell you if the alternator is functioning, there should be a few more volts running, also check voltage from the alternator terminal to a ground point on the tractor. This is my clumsy description.

Hopefully this link will work.
There is a copy of a factory wiring diagram

well with dumb luck I never bolted the gas tank down and when I leaned against it it moved. I made the astute observation that with the gas tank out of the way the back of the "dashboard" was easy to get to. As soon as my new amp meter gets here I think I'll be in business.

Finally got the D in service. Got some hydraulic leaks to deal with someday, but it's running good, keeping cool, good hydraulics, and.Im happy. Only boo boo - I gotta order another temp gauge. My ignition switch somehow came up against the temp gauge and let the smoke out . All the insulation melted off the wire. I was hoping the gauge would still work but it don't. Thank you to all you guys helping me out along the way, your great.
